on that: they work great. they show up as followers-only posts to people in the circles (even if you aren't following the circle creator lmao) and only those people, not other followers on the same instance

what instances have you tried?

mastodon, akkoma, misskey, and iceshrimpnet all had very different reactions to these kind of posts when i tried

also friendica has groups and different categories of accounts, from automatically following people back to news crossposters and organization accounts
i just can't get over how granular every control is
